Alan Gordon, L.C.S.W., is a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of chronic pain.
Many recent studies have shown that the majority of chronic back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia symptoms, carpal tunnel syndrome, migraine headaches, and many other forms of chronic pain are not the result of structural causes, but of psychophysiologic processes that can be resolved through psychotherapy alone.
Dr. John Sarno of the NYU Medical Center has referred to this condition as TMS or Tension Myoneural Syndrome.
Alan Gordon has extensive experience working with TMS clients suffering from back and neck pain, RSI, fibromyalgia, IBS, tendonitis, pelvic pain, chronic headaches, and other pain disorders.
He has written widely on the topic of chronic pain, and his article "The Miracle of Mindbody Medicine" in HCPJ outlines the history, theory, evidence, and treatment protocol for TMS.
Alan is a professor of psychology at USC and has presented on the topic of pain treatment at hospitals, mental health facilities, and pain centers throughout Southern California. He recently chaired the LA Mindbody Conference which took place at UCLA this past March.
Alan offers psychotherapy sessions in his offices in Santa Monica and Marina Del Rey, as well as phone psychotherapy sessions to those not in the Los Angeles area.
